Why I founded Peppermint Technology
When I first entered the UK Legal software market in 2007, I was amazed at how old and backward the technology was. Compared to other markets I have worked in, such as Finance, Telecommunications and even Government, the legal market was in the dark age. Part of this was due to the lack of investment by current software suppliers but it was also a consequence of the legal market culture. I wanted to challenge this and saw the introduction of the Legal Services Act as the game changing moment. I knew the threat of competition from new entrants would force legal firms to grasp the use of technology to compete. I had seen this happen a decade ago in the banking sector. For me this was the forming of a perfect storm: old technology in a market that would be thrown upside down. On the back of the storm I founded Peppermint. I wanted to disrupt the legal software market and propel the industry forward. I want to change the way people in the legal industry think about technology. The future is no longer just about software applications, it's much more than that. The real opportunity is being able to blend applications with content and collaboration in a way that is highly relevant and personalised. The potential for Law Firms, ABSs and In-house Legal Teams is game changing and that's what Peppermint is all about. There is no doubt in my mind we have created something really special that will change the Legal Software industry forever. My background
I entered the IT market as a graduate in IBM. In my early career I enjoyed a variety of sales and product roles in IBM and Sun Microsystems before moving into management. I worked my way through the ranks to UK Board Director in Sun Microsystems (now Oracle) managing a $1billion business unit. Following that I spent a number of years as MD/CEO in market focused software companies. This included my time as MD of IRIS Legal, the UK's largest legal software house. My experience of working in mainstream technology companies, and numerous industry verticals, allowed me to recognise the UK legal market was way behind the technology curve. I could see this was holding back the business potential of legal firms. This led me to found Peppermint Technology in 2010, seizing the opportunity to make Peppermint the innovative Legal Technology software provider of choice.
About me
I live in Surrey UK with my gorgeous husband Simon. When I’m not working, I enjoy walking and running, so I can indulge in chocolate and a glass of Pinot Noir. In the cold winter months I like skiing in Kitzbuhel and love a sandy beach in summer. While I can’t claim to be a “technology geek” I get really excited when I find technology that is intuitive and makes life easier for the user.
